Alexandru Verșinin Elected President of the Chișinău Municipal Organization of the Democracy at Home Party
On Saturday, July 18, 2026, the Democracy at Home Party held the Conference of its Chișinău Municipal Organization, during which the organization’s new leadership was elected.
By unanimous vote, Alexandru Verșinin, Member of Parliament and Vice-Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Policy, was elected President of the Chișinău Municipal Organization of the Democracy at Home Party.
Vasile Costiuc: Citizens’ Trust Requires Us to Be More Present and More Accountable
Vasile Costiuc, President of the Democracy at Home Party, emphasized the strategic importance of the capital both for the party’s development and for the future of the Republic of Moldova.
The municipality of Chișinău has more than 720,000 residents and accounts for approximately 30% of the country’s resident population. As Moldova’s main administrative, economic, academic and cultural centre, the way the capital is governed directly influences the development of the entire country.
Vasile Costiuc noted that, in the most recent elections, the Democracy at Home Party demonstrated that it was gaining support and that an increasing number of citizens were placing their trust in the party through their vote. This support requires the party to be more present within local communities, more attentive to people’s needs and more determined in defending the public interest.
The trust received from citizens must be translated into responsibility, sustained work and tangible results. To this end, the Democracy at Home Party aims to strengthen a Chișinău-based team of competent and honest professionals who will communicate directly with residents, understand the challenges faced by every district and suburb, and offer clear, realistic and measurable solutions.
Citizens and Their Everyday Lives Must Be the Administration’s Priority
A strong municipal organization is not built solely for elections. It must be present in the community every day and begin with the real problems people face.
Chișinău residents lose valuable time in traffic congestion, wait for public transport and continue to face the consequences of the absence of a coherent urban mobility strategy. The parking problem remains unresolved, many pavements are obstructed or difficult to access, while parents with young children, older people and people with reduced mobility experience serious difficulties when moving around the city.
The suburbs continue to face problems related to roads, public transport, water supply and sewerage. In some neighbourhoods, property development has not been accompanied by sufficient schools, kindergartens, green spaces and public services. These are not merely administrative shortcomings. They directly affect people’s time, safety, health and quality of life.
A responsible administration must understand that every decision should place people at its centre: the child walking to school, the parent crossing the city to get to work, the older person who needs a safe pavement, the family waiting for years to be connected to essential utilities, and the entrepreneur who needs clear and equal rules.
The Democracy at Home Party is consolidating a team in Chișinău capable of earning citizens’ trust, assuming responsibility for governing the capital and turning its commitments into tangible results.
Alexandru Verșinin: Investing in the Younger Generation, Protecting Public Funds and Promoting Professional Merit
In his acceptance speech, Alexandru Verșinin thanked his colleagues for their trust and presented three fundamental priorities for his mandate.
Investing in the Younger Generation
The first priority is supporting and empowering the younger generation. Children and young people need more than lessons and school curricula. They also need care, encouragement, security and confidence that they can build their future at home.
Investing in them must begin with safe, clean and properly equipped schools and kindergartens, as well as equal access to education, sport, culture and personal development opportunities. At the same time, young people must be involved in community life, listened to and supported in turning their ideas into real projects.
The inadequate conditions found in some educational institutions are not merely a technical problem. When a child is expected to learn in a deteriorated or unsafe environment, without the necessary facilities, that child’s dignity, confidence and development opportunities are affected. A capital city that fails to prioritize investment in its children compromises its own future.
Responsible and Transparent Management of Public Funds
The second priority is the responsible management of the municipal budget. Public funds belong to citizens, and every leu must be spent according to genuine needs, measurable objectives and transparent procedures.
The capital’s budget must be built around people’s needs, not political interests or image-driven projects. Citizens have the right to know how much a project costs, why it was selected, who is responsible for its implementation, when it will be completed and what tangible results it will deliver.
Responsible management requires publicly established priorities, transparent procurement procedures, rigorous oversight of public works and accountability for delays, unjustified costs or inadequate results.
Competent and Honest Professionals in Public Institutions
The third priority concerns the people entrusted with governing the city. Municipal institutions must be led by competent, intelligent and honest professionals selected on the basis of merit and professional qualifications.
Public office is neither a privilege nor a political reward. It is a responsibility towards citizens. Every person appointed to public office must justify that position through experience, results, integrity and the ability to serve the public interest.
Chișinău needs professionals with expertise in public administration, urban planning, finance, education, infrastructure and public services—people capable of making long-term decisions rather than pursuing measures designed solely to produce immediate electoral benefits.
The new leadership of the Chișinău Municipal Organization is committed to building a united, professional and citizen-focused team—a team prepared to earn the mandate to lead the capital through trust, competence and tangible results.
