GROSU SILENCES THE OPPOSITION. PDA STANDS FIRM.
Chișinău, May 21, 2026 — The Parliament of the Republic of Moldova has become the scene of a troubling precedent for Moldovan democracy. Deputy Alexandru Verșinin of the “Democrația Acasă” faction was sanctioned by Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu with a three-session speaking ban — a punishment handed down after the deputy refused to publicly apologize to the PAS faction for statements he considered legitimate and truthful.
The faction’s response was immediate and unequivocal. PDA leader Vasile Costiuc took the floor to announce that the faction fully maintains and supports Verșinin’s position — for which he too was stripped of his right to speak.
The mechanism of silencing is straightforward: those who do not bow down no longer have a voice.
PDA considers this decision not a measure of parliamentary order, but a political instrument designed to eliminate inconvenient voices from a parliament that PAS continues to control at its discretion. The citizens who voted for change in September 2025 have the right to be represented — not silenced in their own name.
The “Democrația Acasă” faction remains in the chamber. Remains in opposition. And remains with its voice raised — regardless of how many microphones get switched off.
“We have no trust in Grosu’s microphones. He cuts them whenever and however he pleases.” — Democrația Acasă Faction
